Q:

I've missed the July 1 renewal deadline.  What should I do?

A:

The Court has a grace period for completing renewals. This year that grace period is July 31st. If you renew after the grace period, you will be charged an additional $100 reinstatement fee.  If you have open/pending cases in our civil, criminal, or bankruptcy courts you MUST renew to active.  If you do not, you may opt to renew as inactive. What you should NOT do is nothing.  Should you fail to renew, you will be moved to a Termed 83.5.3 status. If you have questions or concerns, contact Attorney Registration at 913-735-2229.

Q:

I've renewed my admission for this year, when can I expect my new bar card?

A:

Bar cards are mailed out in waves, generally one wave a month.  That means it's very possible that some attorneys at a firm will receive their bar cards one week, but an attorney who renewed at a later date won't until a few weeks later. The earlier you renew, the earlier you will receive your new bar card.  Until you receive your new bar card, please continue to use your old bar card. Contact Attorney Registration at 913-735-2229 with questions or concerns.

Q:

When paying for multiple attorneys, why am I limited to only 30 at a time?

A:

OARS itself has no limit on the number of attorneys that can be processed in one transaction. Authorize.Net (our credit card processing agent), unfortunately, enforces a limitation of 30 items per transaction. If you are wanting to pay with a credit card or debit card you must adhere to Authorize.Net's 30 items per transaction limit. If you are paying by check you may include more than 30 attorneys. Contact Attorney Registration at 913-735-2229 with questions or concerns.

Q:

I am trying to pay my annual renewal fee, but the OARS system won't let me. Why?

A:

Have you completed your questionnaire?  You must first complete your on-line renewal questionnaire. OARS will not accept payment of the fee until the questionnaire has been successfully submitted on-line. If this is not the issue, please call Attorney Registration at 913-735-2229 to report the issue.

Q:

When I try to login, nothing happens. There is no error message and the page stays the same.

A:

This could be one of two possibilities. The first is you have javascript disabled in your browser. While OARS doesn't require you to have javascript enabled in order to function, some interactive feedback won't be displayed (such as invalid PINs). Try enabling javascript if it is disabled and double check your bar number and PIN. If you are certain your bar number and PIN are correct, then you have cookies disabled within your browser. OARS does require that cookies be enabled to fill out a renewal; enabling them will allow you to login.

Q:

Can I request a paper form as in past years?

A:

No, we no longer have paper forms available.  We strive to be as paperless as possible. On-line renewal is simple and easy, and takes only a few minutes to complete.  If you have questions, or need help completing your renewal on-line, contact Attorney Registration at 913-735-2229.
